Subject: Copying abilities and fece-down cards
I’ve been trying to figure out what would happen if a player controlling a
Quicksilver Elemental...
1- Used its first ability to copy the activated abilities of a Wall of
Deceit.
2- Used the first ability again to copy another creature’s activated
abilities (say, Llanowar Elves’).
3- Without passing priority, activated Quicksilver Elemental’s "3: Put
[CARNAME] face down." ability and then let both abilities resolve.
After doing all that, would the face-down Quicksilver Elemental be able to
use Llanowar Elves’ "Tap: add G to your mana pool." or not?
I’m confused because I know abilities of cards besides Morph don’t matter
when it’s face-down, but since QE copies the Elves’ ability AFTER flipping
face down I believe the nameless, costless, typeless 2/2 create would
have "T: Add G to your mana pool.".
Here are the cards’ latest Oracle ruilngs:
Quicksilver Elemental 3UU
Creature - Elemental
Mirrodin rare
U: Quicksilver Elemental gains all activated abilities of target creature
until end of turn. (If any of the abilities use that creature’s name, use
this creature’s name instead.)
You may spend blue mana as though it were mana of any color to pay the
activation costs of Quicksilver Elemental’s abilities.
3/4
Wall of Deceit 1U
Creature - Wall
Legions uncommon
Defender (This creature can’t attack.)
3: Turn Wall of Deceit face down.
Morph U (You may play this face down as a 2/2 creature for 3. Turn it face
up any time for its morph cost.)
0/5
Llanowar Elves G
Creature - Elf Druid
Tenth Edition common
T: Add G to your mana pool.
